This Scale Model Boat kit is of the small Island Supply Vessel and Ferry the "Graemsay". This small, rugged and attractively colourful vessel is owned by Orkney Ferries and operates from Kirkwall, capital of the Orkney Islands, and supplies the needs of the crofting communities on the outlaying islands. To supply these islands the Graemsay has a reinforced cargo deck capable of taking a tractor of up to 8 tons in weight. This deck also has sockets to take portable pens, so that sheep and cattle can be transported to and from the islands. The stern ramp allows for these types of cargoes to be driven on or off where the islands dock has a loading slip. Where these do not exist a Pallfinger 2 tonne hydraulic crane has been fitted for unloading on to quaysides. She would also transport all the other items used or needed on the islands, from letters to consumables, gas bottles and building materials, so whatever was needed she carries!
This has the advantage to the modeller, in that you can choose carry whatever cargo you wish to model in order to enhance the rear deck. She also has the front saloon that is capable of carrying up to 54 foot passengers, either residents or tourists to the island.
The model has twin screws with modified "Fish Tail" rudders to assist in mooring alongside small quays with minimal facilities, the real boat also has a bow thruster fitted, but this is not included in the kit, however, there is space for this to be retro fitted should you wish to include one.
NB : the model requires a Propulsion Motor and battery type of your choice and an R/C System in order to finish it as a working model.
